👁️ The Girl Who Got Away
UX/UI Case Study | Film Website | Horror & Psychological Thriller

Overview
For the independent psychological thriller The Girl Who Got Away, I created an immersive website that serves as both a digital poster and narrative extension of the film. Drawing on classic horror motifs and modern interactive design, the site sets the tone before viewers even hit “Play.”

Problem
The filmmakers needed more than a standard promotional site—they wanted an experience that would:

Convey the unsettling tone of the film

Build intrigue without revealing spoilers

Encourage press coverage and audience interest

Goal
Design and develop a hauntingly atmospheric site that:

Reflects the film’s psychological depth and horror aesthetic

Guides users through the story world with suspense and restraint

Encourages engagement with trailers, bios, and press assets

My Role
Concept Development & Moodboarding

UX Wireframing & UI Design (Figma)

Visual Direction & Graphic Design

Front-End Development (Webflow or custom code)

Motion Design & Interactive Behavior

Design Solutions
👻 1. Visual Tone & Aesthetic

Used stark black-and-white contrast with greenish gray accent tones to evoke dread and danger

Chose cinematic fonts to echo title card styling from vintage horror

🕷 2. Suspenseful Interaction Design

Implemented slow reveals and scroll-based animations to build narrative curiosity

📽 3. Narrative-Driven UX

Designed a homepage that feels like an opening shot: minimal copy, eerie animation, one clear CTA

Dedicated sections for character bios, trailer, and director’s statement—all styled as if torn from the film’s world

Created a dynamic press kit page with password-protected media downloads for reviewers

Outcomes
Helped the film stand out at indie festivals and in press campaigns

Users praised the site as “creepy but beautiful” and “a perfect mood-setter”

Time on page increased significantly compared to industry averages for indie film sites
